A brief descriptionCounseling is my calling. It is my love and joy to be able to help so many people who come through my doors. Each person is unique, and my job is to give you my full attention, focus on what you want, and customize a plan to fit your needs and goals.
I first earned my bachelors degree in Nutrition and Food Science. Helping people understand their health and care for their bodies was important work, but the mind and body are not separate and I soon discovered that my patient's psychological matters overwhelmed the need for nutritional advice. After working 20 years in counseling related jobs, it was a natural progression to earn my masters degree in counseling, which I did from USF in 2009. People from all walks of life have sat across from me with various challenges, including trauma and abuse, obesity, addiction, depression, disability, rehabilitation, loss, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, self-esteem, relationships, aging issues, etc. It doesn't matter what label we put on the problem, because your story is unique and personal, and because it is happening to you. It is your life we are talking about. And it becomes my privilege to hear it, without judgment. You may see limitations when you see me, but they are physical (I broke my neck, age 18, and became paralyzed). My mind is free and I have learned that I can break more barriers because of the power of freedom in my mind than my walking self could have conceived. Because I dare to live fully, the results of my challenges have become my gifts. So, I can often understand where you are coming from because I've faced many challenges and have been able to turn them around to my advantage. I have learned and grown from the demands of these adversities and, combined with my training, am a more effective counselor because of them. If this inspires you to make your life better, please call and tell me! Kim Brulay LMHC (863) 899-9069 call or text |
